Just a couple of years after its launch, the Toyota Corolla was released on American soil in the summer of 1968, right as the sales of imported vehicles were growing fast.
Sold as a two-door subcompact car in the 1969 for about $1,700, the Toyota Corolla rapidly developed a reputation for being cheap, reliable and easy to maintain. The car was available in two engine setups: a 1.1-liter or a 1.2-liter. Also, it was offered in two transmission choices, a 2-speed automatic and a 4-speed manual.
