Even with a full month of sales to go, it will take a miracle to beat Toyota’s hatch in the sales competition, the vehicle already holding a commanding lead.

Toyota Australia’s executive director of sales and marketing Tony Cramb says that he’s not ready to claim victory for the Corolla as the Mazda3 stands pretty close, but he seems quietly confident it will be Australia’s best-seller.

“Since car dealerships opened on January 2 this year, Corolla has chalked up almost 40,000 sales in a close battle for sales supremacy,” says Cramb.

Toyota sold 3,894 Corolla units in Australia last month, followed by Mazda3 with 3,666 and then comes the Hilux sold in 3,368 units. Overall Toyota is the top selling November brand, with 18,098 units followed by Holden with 10,477.
