Just six months after being launched, the all-new Toyota Corolla sedan and wagon are transitioning into the 2020 model year with a number of changes. The headline is the addition of Nightshade Edition models, though other upgrades have also happened.
Toyota now has a total of six Nightshade models, including the 4Runner, Camry, Highlander and Sienna. And it's by no means the only mainstream brand to focus on blackout packages at the moment.
The Nightshade Corolla sedan is based on the SE model with a CVT gearbox, adding tint to the badges, the grille, 18-inch wheels, bumper trim, rockers, and mirrors. The back is especially sporty thanks to the black spoiler and fake air diffusor.
As for the younger-looking Corolla hatchback, it too is based on the SE model. Besides all the features we mentioned for the sedan, it also has black frames for the headlights of course, it has a slightly different look for the front end.
The compact Nightshade sedan is yours for $22,750, €700 more than the SE CVT. You'll pay slightly less in the case of the hatchback €22,290, or $900 over the SE base. Buyers can choose between three exterior colors - Super White, Classic Silver Metallic and Black Sand Pearl.
Production for both special edition vehicles kicks off this fall. However, these aren't the only 2020 model year changes. You can order a black roof for the hatch, just like in the Camry. It will be available with the following exterior colors: Blizzard Pearl, Oxide Bronze, Classic Silver Metallic, Smoked Paprika and Blue Flame.
In addition, the infotainment now has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hopefully, that comes as a retrofit if you've already got a new Corolla.
One thing that was holding the hatch... back (sorry for the pun) was lack of trunk floor. You can now have a package that replaces the spare with a tire repair kit, which lets the cargo floor go lower and gives you 24 cubic feet of space, six more than before.
