The US dealers’ increased demand for Toyota pickups are making the automaker pondering a production increase at its plants in Texas and Mexico.
"Dealers are telling us they could sell more Tacomas and Tundras," Toyota Division General Manager Bill Fay said. "We are evaluating our footprint and capacity."
Fay also added that each plant can boost the production of the two pickup models with about 7,000 units after some assembly line tweaks, but it might not be enough.
Currently, Toyota can make a combined 250,000 Tundra and Tacoma pickups in San Antonio, Texas. Toyota already sold 248,468 pickups through November this year, totally indicating a need for increasing the production.
The Tundra full pickup sales have rebounded from a three-year slump, with 101,744 units sold through November this year, 123 units more from the same period of last year and 18,836 more from 2011.
