Toyota Considering Hot Auris

Toyota is aiming high with the new Auris, which challenges established rivals in Europe, such as the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus or Renault Megane, and since all the others are very capable in their own right, it’s got its work cut out. However, with the addition of an estate into its range, the appeal has certainly grown.

Now, though, Toyota officials have confirmed that a sporty version of the car is not out of the question, if the current range achieves decent sales success. According to Toyota’s product planning chief, Karl Schlicht, a hotter and tighter version of the Auris is “not a number one priority”, but they do have “room to experiment” with it, if sales are satisfactory. He went on to say that “the key thing for us is to run a good business first, and then start having fun later.”

With the Auris, Toyota is hoping for an increase in its share of the segment, from the current 4.5% to 5.5%. Also, if they establish themselves as a hot hatch maker in Europe, their ‘kudos factor’ will be considerably higher, a factor which may also boost sales in the rest of the range.
