Toyota’s Chinese subsidiary reported a 63 percent sales increase in September over the same period of last year, despite the territorial bickering between Beijing and Tokyo that led Chinese customers to reject Japanese products last year.
The Japanese automaker sold 72,100 brand new vehicles in China last month, compared to only 44,100 last year’s September.
The market appears to be recovering after the spat between China and Japan over some rocky islands in the East China Sea that made many Chinese customers turn their back at Japanese products.
Currently, Toyota builds cars in China through its ventures FAW Group and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Among the cars sold in the region is the Toyota Yaris, Camry, Highlander, FJ Cruiser and Hilux.
