Toyota Camry-Producing St. Petersburg Plant in Russia Gets Second Shift

Toyota’s Russian arm today announced the debut of second shift to the St, Petersburg plant that builds the Camry in order to boost production of the model. The Camry has been a huge success on the Russian market, with 19,950 units of the model being sold between January and July this year. The figure represents a 54 percent increase compared to last year’s value.
Thus, Toyota announced the addition of the second shift back in April, hiring and training 600 people subsequently, who are now ready to start. The Camry offered in Russia is slightly different to that sold in the US in terms of body details, but the changes only target the front and rear fascias, as well as the wheels. Under the hood, Russians get the same 2.5-liter and 3-liter engines as Americans.

Our say: we’ll remind you that the Camry is the best-selling car in the US, which, coupled with the vehicle’s huge success on the Russian market, means that the Japanese have come up with a solution for the Cold War, but a bit too late...
