Toyota Camry Named the Most American-Made Vehicle

According to a recent study published by Cars.com, the 2015 Toyota Camry leads the American-Made chart together with the Toyota Sienna minivan. This doesn’t come as a surprise though, albeit there is a little curiosity that needs to be mentioned.

At the beginning of June, we were reporting about the Kogod Made in America auto index and the fact that five cars made by General Motors are boasting an 87 percent overall score. The same study, performed by the Washington DC-based American University, lists the Camry in 9th place in the Made in America auto index, with 78 percent total domestic content.

So why does Cars.com rank the Toyota Camry (and Sienna) as the most American-made cars currently sold in the United States? Maybe it all boils down to a different way of analyzing the total domestic content that goes into making these cars. If anything, you might want to know that the Camry is, at the end of the day, highly American based on multiple factors.

First and foremost, the Toyota Camry is made since 1988 in Kentucky. The TMMK assembly plant also produces 4 and 6-cylinder powerplants. The Lexus ES 350 will also be built at the Georgetown Toyota plant, with production salted to start later this year. As for the Sienna, the minivan is assembled in Princeton at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana plant.

Another reason why the Toyota Camry and Sienna ranked high in the Kogod and Cars.com indexes is due to the fact that both models were designed and engineered in the US. Both models also boast American chief designers and both are built with a high percentage of components made in the United States of America. “These results are a testament to Toyota’s continued investment and growth in the United States,” declared Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz.

As a brief reminder, the 2015 Toyota Camry LE four-cylinder is priced at $22,970. For the range-topping model, customers will have to pay $29,980 for the 2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid SLE. In the 2015 model year Toyota Sienna’s case, the base MSRP is $28,600 for the Sienna L V6 while the top-of-the-range trim level (Sienna Limited Premium AWD) is $46,150.
