The first Toyota Avalon rolled out of the assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, on February 21st, 1994, which means the model celebrated its 20th birthday this year on the same date. You might think Toyota forgot about its flagship's milestone, but you know how busy the automaker is these days. No one forgot about the model. In fact and as a surprise present, here’s the Touring Sports new package, built to celebrate two decades of full-size goodness.
Yeah, we know, the only “sporty” thing about the Avalon is its liftback body shape, so the special pack’s name might not make that much sense. Yet still, it adds some cool features that boosts the flagship sedan’s image a few notches up.
On the outside, the Avalon XLE Touring Sport Edition boasts a new black paintjob, HID headlights with LED daytime running lights and a set of 18-inch black-painted machined finish alloy wheels that look almost the same as the ones on the Scion FR-S.
The interior gets enhanced via dark blue dashboard trimmings, aluminum scuff plates, perforated leather-trimmed multi-stage heated front seats with dark blue stitching as well as a set of Avalon Touring Sports Edition badges scattered around on different pieces.
Each Avalon XLE Touring Sport will cost $37,170 and only 2,500 units will be available from late October 2014 to March 2015.
Speaking of which, the rest of the upgrades for the rest of the models include blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert added to the XLE Touring and Hybrid XLE Touring, paddle shifters with Sport/Eco/Normal modes for all the gasoline powered range, two new colors (Celestial Silver Metallic, Cosmic Gray Mica) and the 2nd generation Entune audio.
Prices for the revised range start at $32,285 and go as high as $41,700.
