It looks like the Australian government is pretty concerned about the country’s car manufacturing future, even though Toyota and Holden are said to remain in business after Ford’s huge loss and closing operations after 2016.
So concerned that the Victorian and South Australian governments offered AU $215 million to Holden in order to sustain their production until 2022.
Recently, reports show that Toyota will receive similar incentives from the government to secure the production and even ad a third model to its lineup until early 2014, probably the RAV4, which shares the platform of the local-made Camry.
“At the moment I’m working with Toyota on a set of measures as well, and we’re confident of their future in manufacturing,”, Federal industry minister Greg Combet said in an interview. “Local manufacturing is an important part of Toyota Australia's business model. It is our intention to continue building cars here in Australia.”
