Toyota Aqua / Prius C Is Already a Hit in Japan

From the first moment we understood what it actually is, we know that the new Toyota Yaris-sized hybrid would potentially have the appeal to outpace a lot of other such cars, and that the automaker would be wise to offer it in Europe as well.

Toyota has stated that is had received a total of 60,000 pre-orders for the car, which is astounding considering they only expected to sell about 12,000 cars per month in Japan. "It will take about four months to receive the car once an order is placed," Toyota managing officer Koei Saga, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Aqua is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 74 hp, and mated to a 45 kW electric motor. Combined output is exactly 100 hp, which is enough to push it to 100 km/h (62mph) in 10.7 seconds in combination with its CVT gearbox.

Prices in Japan start at JPY1.69 million, which is about $21,770, but it could be cheaper in other markets.
