Small, agile and economic, the baby Prius made it to the top of the September sales chart in Japan, with 26,543 units delivered to customers, representing huge increase of 120.4 percent over the same period in 2012.

Second place was also taken by Toyota, with the Prius Liftback selling 23,069 units, ramping sales up by 104.4 percent over September last year.

Honda Fit came in third with 19,388 and there are still two more Toyotas in the top ten, with the Corolla taking sixth place with 10,784 sold units and the Vitz getting ninth spot with 6,869.

The year-on-date sales increase seem astronomical, but let’s not forget that Japan was struck by a huge earthquake, a tsunami and had an affected nuclear reactor in 2011, all traducing in huge automotive industry loses.
