Toyota Announces Worldwide Recall of 2.7-Million Vehicles

After recalling new fewer than 7.4-million vehicles for a potentially faulty power window button, Toyota is at it again, this time recalling 2.7-million cars worldwide, due to problems with the steering, as well as the hybrid system of the second generation Prius.

Of the total number of cars recalled, over 1.5-million are in Japan, 670,000 in the US, as well as 496,000 in Europe, of which 75,000 in the UK alone. The steering issue has to do with the intermediate extension shafts, which can be damaged at low speeds, and is present in early second-generation Prius models, as well as the Corolla and Avensis, and it can be fixed in under an hour.

Also, some vehicles will suffer from both problems, so if all the affected cars are added up, a total of 2.77-million cars will be recalled. Factoring in the massive 7.4-million unit recall from last month, it means that Toyota has recalled over 10-million cars in the last two months
