In Time Attack races all you need to worry about are the seconds on the stopwatch... to keep the time as low as you can when crossing the finish line. And the 86 TRD Griffon concept appears to be the right weapon for the war against the clock.
After its debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the 86 TRD Griffon Concept has been going under a continuous development and upgrading process aimed at one single thing - to make it faster around the track.
Based on the production version Toyota GT 86, Toyota Racing Development concentrated on the sportscar’s potential to bring the real racecar that lies under its affordability and moderate power labels that many have used to describe it.
The 86 Griffon Concept is lighter by using carbon fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastic panels, also giving it a lower center of gravity. Handling is furthermore enhanced by using a track-tuned suspension, performance tires and brakes, lightweight rims, a TRD differential and different aero elements.
Inside, the Griffon comes with just the dashboard a rollcage, TRD bucket seat and other racing gear.
The final result? The 86 TRD Griffon laps the Tsukuba circuit in just 58.407 seconds as you can see in the video bellow.
