According to a Chinese website, Toyota applied for the 4Runner patent to produce the vehicle locally for the Chinese market.
Since the 4Runner is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado which is already being produced there, it seems like the Guangzhou Toyota joint-venture will be responsible of assembling the bold-looking SUV.
The Toyota 4Runner gets its power from a 4-liter V6 gasoline engine providing 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque mated to a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
The entry level 4Runner comes with air conditioning and second row vents, Entune Audio Plus system, fabric trimmed seats with 8-way powered driver’s seat, cruise control, leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel with shortcut buttons, remote keyless and more.
Pricing in China will probably be set around 500.000 yuan.
