A video shot earlier this month in Brooklyn, New York City, is making the rounds on social media, earning one particular but still unidentified driver all the praise in the world for being able to keep his cool in a situation in which most of us would lose our heads.
The video is timestamped July 13 and seems to have been recorded while the car made its way across Brooklyn, Jalopnik says. Whether the driver is working for Uber or Lyft is uncertain, but whichever company he’s with, here’s to hoping he has a bright future with it.
The video begins with the driver stopped at the lights and the female passenger reclining on her side in the backseat. With her is a man, her partner and presumably the father of the baby who’s about to come out in mere seconds. The woman announces that the birth is imminent and, before she even has time to pull down her underwear, a little girl is born.

During all this time, the driver is shouting instructions, taking over from the dad who seems to have completely lost his head and just sits there in silence. He urges “mami” to spread her legs and to keep breathing and, once the baby is born, he tells her to wipe it clean and not mind the mess on the seat, because “God bless the baby.”
He also advises the couple to get the girl to the hospital and “check her in,” all the while keeping his eyes on the road.
“You better hook me up with a little extra for the car wash, man,” the driver tells the dad as they’re nearing the hospital. The dad’s response is peak new dad who, on the way to the hospital to have a baby, didn’t consider the possibility the baby might come on the way there: “Man I’m broke, I didn’t think this was gonna happen!”
Commenters highlight the poise and calmness of the driver, who is able to calm down the new parents, guide them through birth and drive without an incident. For that alone, he should have gotten top rating and a huge tip.
