The second Red Bull-sponsored team from Formula 1, Scuderia Torro Rosso, is switching back to Ferrari engines after two years during which its cars were powered by Renault.
Together with this announcement, the F1 team has also confirmed its driver lineup for the next season. Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz will remain Torro Rosso’s main drivers and will drive the STR11 under new motivation.

Both of them became part of the team after Jean-Eric Vergne was fired and Daniil Kvyat promoted to the Red Bull Racing team, just like Daniel Ricciardo before him. Because of this move, RBR has one of the youngest driver line-ups in the current Formula 1 championship.

Some of the most noteworthy results that the team obtained this season are a fourth-place finish from Max Verstappen in Hungary and United States of America, together with Carlos Sainz’ results, who managed to finish in the points in seven out of 19 Grands Prix in 2015 and a seventh place in Austin, Texas.

Over the years, the Red Bull-sponsored team only had a podium finish in ten seasons on the grid.

Because the engine switch came on such short notice, the team will use the very last specification employed by Ferrari in the previous season.

According to Franz Tost, Toro Rosso's team principal, his team and Ferrari have had a fruitful relationship in the past and it is great to work with the Italian car manufacturing company once again. He also reckons that it will mean less time for testing, but he is confident that his team can pull it off in the end.

After the last-minute engine swap, Renault will power only two teams in 2016, while Ferrari will sell its engines to a total of four teams, including the newcomer Haas.

Red Bull had bought the team formerly known as Minardi in 2005, changing its name into Toro Rosso and switching to Ferrari engines in 2006 for the first time.
