Toro Rosso Expect New Parts by Hungary

The fact that Scuderia Toro Rosso lost out to Red Bull Racing in terms of car development is no news to any racing fan out there. While beginning the season with almost the same visual package as their Milton Keynes based “sister”, Toro Rosso had to continue their 2009 programme without the last-minute innovations set up by RBR's design guru Adrian Newey.

Consequently, the Faenza based team has spent most of the Europeans rounds at the rear of the field, scoring only one point in the last 4 races. While Red Bull debuted some two versions of the double diffuser throughout the last 4 events, the STR4 is yet to be fitted with the aero device.

In addition, the Toro Rosso challenger did not benefit from the latest aerodynamic package picked up by the RB5 at Silverstone. While the two Red Bull drivers contested in a league of their own on the Northamptonshire track, Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastien Buemi spent the entire weekend in the backfield.

We have a different engine, different cooling and different suspension to Red Bull,” argued Buemi in an interview with German publication Auto Motor und Sport. “We have what we have and need to make the best of it until the new diffuser comes,” added his French teammate.

Unfortunately, the new diffuser will not be ready by the upcoming race, the German Grand Prix at Nurburgring. Although the team has no less than 3 weeks to implement the new changes, it is believed the STR4 will debut some of the Red Bull-developed features at the Hungaroring, in late July.

We suffer from the lack of new specification aero parts. We will have these for Hungary, when I expect and hope that this will bring us back to the front end of the midfield,” confirmed Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost.
