After Top Gear wasted $700,000 on a canceled trip to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the BBC released the first trailer for Series 23. Mere hours after the trailer was uploaded to YouTube, the dislikes outnumber the likes by a ratio of almost 3 to 1. It’s clear then that the show is off to a bumpy start.
In the red corner, we have the presenters. After the fracas incident, the old crew parted ways with the British Broadcasting Corporation and signed a multi-million dollar contract with Amazon for a show that will start airing later this year. Instead of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, Top Gear now consists of seven presenters. Their names are as follows:
- Chris Evans
- Chris Harris
- Sabine Schmitz
- Matt LeBlanc
- Eddie Jordan
- Rory Reid
- The Stig
Regarding the cars they’ll be driving in Top Gear Series 23, diversity is the name of the game:
- McLaren 675LT (with Formula 1 driver Jenson Button behind the wheel)
- Dodge Viper ACR (reviewed by Chris Evans)
- Ariel Nomad (reviewed by Matt LeBlanc)
- Ford Mustang (with Rory Reid in the hot seat)
- Reliant Robin (on the bed of a trailer, with Matt LeBlanc having the time of his life)
- Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (with a machine gun bolted on top of the roof)
- Aston Martin Vulcan
- Zenos E10
- Ferrari F12tdf
- Audi R8 V10 plus (with Sabine Schmitz driving and Chris Evans puking)
- Willys Jeep (towing a Reliant Robin wearing a Union Jack livery)
From the looks of it, new Top Gear is a promising affair. Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc will be the helmsmen of the show while the rest of the lineup is to “come and go as and when required,” as per a story published by the BBC. Love it or hate it, the times have changed and Top Gear has undoubtedly changed as well. Then again, let us look on the bright side of life - now we have two top-tier car shows instead of one.
The first episode of Top Gear Series 23 is slated to be aired on May 8.
