For 13 years have the two long time friends worked their behinds off to reinvent an auto show that lost its competitive edge. Yet, like everything on this planet, good things come to an end. When Jeremy Clarkson lost it, back in March, an end of an era began, and we all knew it. Now, that grand finale has arrived at its last leg. Andy Wilman has officially resigned.
We knew it would happen folks, don’t act all surprised because there's no reason for that. BBC just made the announcement, and there’s not much left to comment. Ever since that email (which was supposed to be a private, kind goodbye) leaked, we knew.
The Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman has quit the BBC show in the wake of Jeremy Clarkson’s departure and the network just confirmed it. The national broadcast network somehow found the need to outline that Wilman first announced his colleagues, instead of following the protocol. “He had previously denied he was leaving when a leaked email suggested he was,” the article reads.
On the other hand, they do admit that Wilman, who is a childhood friend of Clarkson, helped reinvent the show and essentially revived it into a globally successful program.
BBC had their media and arts correspondent David Sillito to comment on the two’s addition to the show. “The two old school friends turned a slightly worthy motoring consumer program into an entertainment show that was funny, irreverent, highly-produced and a hit around the world,” Sillito said.
As much it hurts to officially acknowledge the gang has split, we all have to be aware we had it coming. As we said, we all knew it’s going to happen sooner rather than later, and that is just common sense.
If we truly are Top Gear enthusiasts, the only thing left to do is to appreciate the tremendous efforts the entire crew went through for our entertainment over so many years, and tip our hats to them.
