Top 5 Eco-Conscious Celebrities that Drive Petrol Monsters

Product placement is no stranger to any car maker on this planet, as is using celebrities to promote products in a popular-to-the-mass way. Also called embedded marketing, one of the newer fields that uses this strategy is the so-called environmental-friendly terrain. Far too long have we witnessed how rich and famous people advocate for a healthier planet, yet drive thirsty, petrol-consuming machines.

Hey, don’t get me wrong here. The only way I can think of a better future is hoping that some of those that occupy leadership seats are clever enough to understand that the planet is not a given thing we can play around with forever. Trees are not just raw material we can use to build structures which later we demolish only to put bigger ones up instead.

Inexhaustible or not, the petrol harvested by huge oil companies, respectively the gas we, more recently, buy pretty cheap is not there only to fuel our eager, our pride. This entire world that currently assures millions of people they have something to put on the table, is not there to simply feed one's false feeling of superiority.

Sorry fellows, but some really think that the feeling of freedom driving your car generates is actually making you oblivious to any rules. That’s how music producer Suge Knight thought the other day when he simply ran over people because they disagreed with him.

Then, how can we be certain our life and the economical grounds of today, won’t change to 180 degrees tomorrow? After all, history has often proven that empires fall and tables turn restlessly.

These could make for a list of questions celebrities whom people stand up to should ask. They are the ones millions eagerly follow on social networks, they have the power to change. Yet, do they make a difference?

It’s not our place to decide, but we can tell VIPs this: stop asking people to do what you don’t. Stop pretending you’re green, when you’re clearly brown. Here’s a list of people who could easily make up for the hypocrisy top 5 (it's in random order, we’ll let you be the judge of it).

1. Justin Timberlake

As an avid amateur golfer, Timberlake purchased the run-down Big Creek Golf Course in his home town of Millington, Tennessee, which he then changed into an eco-friendly Mirimichi Golf Course at a cost of some $16 million. He was even given the Futures Award at the Environmental Media Awards. Yet, the Cry Me a River singer owns a couple of big boys, such as a Lexus RX 350 and a Hummer H3.

2. Ben Affleck

Since he is the founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, one of the actor/director's main goals is raising people’s awareness of the threatened natural resources in the African region. The Gone Girl actor has frequently sent messages which urge people to support clean water initiatives. Yet, in the past years the Batman vs. Superman actor has been seen driving a Mercedes GL 350, an S63 AMG and a Land Rover LR4. That is of course, without his famous 1966 Chevelle he loves driving so much. The 42-years old actor does own a Tesla Model S though.

3. Brad Pitt

Yes, ladies, yes, we’re messing with your beloved actor. Before we start picking on him, however, we have to admit that Pitt and Jolie are probably the coolest couple when it comes to giving back, especially with their humanitarian ventures. But, Pit also got involved in some eco stuff as well, back in 2006 when he founded the Make It Right Foundation. The organization was busy constructing 150 sustainable, affordable new houses in New Orleans' Ninth Ward following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Yet, apart from his motorcycle collection, he has been seen driving a Lexus LS 460 F Sport, a Chevrolet Camaro SS, a Jeep Cherokee and an Audi Q7.

4. Matt Damon

The Bourne actor is also involved in several humanitarian ventures. One of them is Water.org, a non-profit developmental aid organization whose goal is to provide aid to regions of developing countries that do not have access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Yet, it was only recently we saw Damon driving his Cadillac Escalade to the gym. He was, however, one of the Hollywood celebrities to first buy a Tesla Roadster.

5. Orlando Bloom

Yes, Legolas likes to see himself as the protector of the environment, an advocate of a cleaner planet. Bloom has been a apart of Global Green, an environmental company, since the early 2000s. He has renovated his London home to use solar panels, incorporate recycled materials and utilize energy efficient lightbulbs. Yet, he just bought a brand new BMW M6 Gran Coupe, which is not even a stock model but one fitted with the extra-grunt adding Competition Package that takes its 4.4-liter V8 up to 575 HP. Yup, it's the most powerful and polluting version of the four-door coupe.

Maybe these celebrities' charitable work does make up for some of these mistakes but since we're all pretending to be holier than the Pope, shouldn't we at least try and also act like it?

Since we’re pretty sure we missed a bunch of people who like to pose eco-conscious, but act dirty, we’ll count on you to complete this list. Meanwhile, stay green, stay fresh or for the love of God at least stay true!
