It all started with Fernandes telling the media that he won't accept under any circumstances to end the 2010 F1 season behind Richard Branson's Virgin Racing. Needless to say, the British billionaire did not let the opportunity slip away and, instead of proposing a killing spree, bet his counterpart a stewardess job ay his personal airline company that his team will finish the next season in front of Lotus.
“He has an airline, we have an airline and if we beat him he can come and work on our airline as a Virgin stewardess. We will make sure that the stewardess outfit is perfect. I suspect that he might ask us to reciprocate. I’ll have to check how fetching his stewardess outfits are but I’d be game to do it while totally confident of winning,” responded Branson, according to the Reuters news agency.
Continuing the joking bet, Fernandes hit back earlier today, when asked ESPNF1 about the aforementioned challenge.
“Bring it on, the sexier the better,” said Fernandes. “It's quite fitting, don't you think? Our passengers will be delighted to be served by a Knight of the Realm. But knowing Richard, the real challenge will be to prevent him from asking our guests "coffee, tea or me? That would be scary,” joked the Lotus official.
During the course of this week, both teams have confirmed their drivers' lineup for the 2010 season. While Lotus will field 2 former race winners in the F1 series, namely Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, Virgin Racing will start their F1 story with Timo Glock and rookie driver Lucas di Grassi.
