TomTom Vows to Reduce Traffic Congestion

TomTom promises to use the two hands on its logo to keep you away from traffic jams - Yes, we’re kidding. Using our serious voice, we’ll tell you that the company today announced that it has taken on the challenge to reduce traffic congestion, as part of its Traffic Manifesto.

So, what’s behind the bold claim? Well, the company brags that the recent introduction of the TomTom HD Traffic to the US allows drivers who use this to reduce traffic congestion fro themselves and other. A TomTom research shows that it only takes 10 percent of those who use the service to create areal-time “collective effect”, allowing the traffic to flow more efficiently.

TomTom’s Traffic Manifesto highlights four main action areas that should accelerate mass adoption of smart route guidance systems, with the company vowing to collaborate with individuals, businesses, organizations and governments to reach its aforementioned goal.

Here are the four commitments of the Manifesto:

1. TomTom will encourage and inspire people to play a role in reducing traffic congestion.
2. TomTom will increase the availability of TomTom HD Traffic.
3. TomTom will lead the continuous improvement of traffic and route guidance technology.
4. TomTom will bring together key traffic stakeholders to share ideas and drive actions forward.

TomTom plans to spread the initiative worldwide, with the introduction to Europe, which will take place later this year, being the first step.

"For many drivers, traffic congestion has become inevitable," said Harold Goddijn, TomTom CEO. "We think it's time to challenge conventional thinking with a working solution to reduce traffic congestion on a large scale."
