TomTom Traffic Improved with New Features

Slated to be rolled out from April, an updated version of TomTom Traffic will become the go-to service for drivers who use personal navigation devices and navigation apps on a daily basis. TomTom Traffic is now available in 50 countries thanks to the addition of Slovenia and Indonesia to the list.

Four significant enhancements will be integrated this April, the first being Turn-Dependent Traffic Information. This feature is designed to detect the different turn dependent traffic situations at intersections, then enable the TomTom satellite navigation system to take into account traffic jams specific to the driver’s turn intention.

The Dynamic Speed Limit Messages feature, on the other hand, monitors the highway network for roadside and overhead message signs. This ensures a more consistent traffic flow by reducing the speed of traffic flow during busy periods and so forth. The third feature is called Weather Influenced Predictions and it uses weather information to improve the accuracy of the expected lifetime of a traffic jam. The fourth addition is Road Condition Monitoring After Rain or Snow.

As all drivers out there already know, traffic conditions will always continue to be affected by delays even after the snow has stopped falling. This happens because there’s snow lying on the road. TomTom’s Road Condition Monitoring After Rain or Snow feature is designed to monitor areas affected by weather-related delays such as the one presented beforehand in order to display relevant messages to the driver until the road returns to normal, including alternative routing and ETA information.

Taken together with the current suite of TomTom Traffic features, what will roll out in April is an insanely versatile satellite navigation system with extremely accurate traffic information. “At TomTom, we work tirelessly to ensure that we deliver a leading Traffic service,” said Ralf-Peter Schafer, the Head of Traffic at TomTom.

“We like to keep things simple, so drivers won’t notice many of the new features that are running in the background, but we do believe that they’ll notice that their journeys come with fewer headaches, as well as being faster,” he continued Schafer. You can download the TomTom GPS Navigation suite with Traffic services from the Google Play store and from iTunes.
