Dutch GPS manufacturer TomTom announces that their new motorcycle-oriented navigation system known as Rider 5 will be unveiled at the Utrecht, the Netherlands bike exhibition on February the 21st. However, some of the specs of the new gadget have already leaked by means of a German motorcycle accessory and apparel retailer's website,
The Rider 5 is the first entirely new model of TomTom's bike navigation system: the previous editions relied on minor modifications, but the new toy is different. For starters, it looks like the Rider 5 comes with a 4.3” screen, which is a sizable upgrade from the former 3.5” display.

One of the great additions to the TomTom Rider 5 map is the possibility to ask the GPS to show your the route with the most turns! Now, that's one thing the twistie-lovers out there will surely appreciate.

The Rider 5 is of course, waterproof (IPX7 certification) and vibration-proof, equipped with Bluetooth communication. Due to the larger screen dimensions, the TomTom Rider 5 will sport a 6-hours battery lifetime. That's two hours or so less than the previous models, but since it comes with an included cable to hook it up your bike's 12V system, that's a rather minor downside.

The TomTom Rider 5 will be available for €399 ($535 with 45 European country maps) or for €499 ($670) with a lifetime of free map updates. Below you can find the PDF (in German) catalog pages for the new TomTom Rider 5, courtesy of
