Now, navigation systems manufacturer, TomTom has begun a new program which aims to better inform drivers of traffic flow and congestion problems in the world’s major cities. The list of cities is so far 80-long, and it features locations from Europe and the US.

The system works on real-life GPS data, which has been gathered from the millions of TomTom users around the world. This allows the company to efficiently map and understand the various patterns that emerge, after studying and comparing the data.

In Europe, the most congested city is Istanbul, followed by the Polish capital, Warsaw. In North America, and more specifically the US, Los Angeles is easily the most congested city, followed by Washington, Houston, San Francisco, Minneapolis, as well as Ottawa, Edmonton from Canada.
