TomTom GO x50 LIVE Series Unveiled

GPS solution provider TomTom unveiled today what is to become their flagship device: the GO x50 LIVE Series. The unveiling of the new GPS was done ahead of its release to the market, scheduled to take place sometimes after autumn, hence no prices are yet known. The LIVE subscription however is priced at £7.99 a month.

"As the world's leading provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, it is our duty to constantly break new ground, developing unique technologies with the sole purpose of making the driver's journey more reliable, predictable and affordable," Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director of TomTom was quoted as saying by TechRadar.

The new GPS from the LIVE series integrates a wide range of information, some of which drivers may find to be particularly useful: petrol prices, real time traffic updates and safety alerts via the new LIVE snapshot and IQ Routes technology.

New menus, including a frequent destinations menu have been added to calculate a route to a frequently visited destination easier and faster. An Eco Routes option has been added to the route menu, so drivers can select the most fuel-efficient route to help reduce their impact on the environment.

"Our unique innovations guarantee the fastest routes, so users are empowered to deal confidently with the ever-changing road situation and take the right decisions accordingly," Vigreux added.

There will be three GPS models offered: GO 950 LIVE, GO 750 LIVE and GO 550 LIVE. The 950 brings pre-installed maps for door-to-door navigation in US, Canada and 45 countries in Europe, as well as Enhanced Positioning Technology (EPT), a feature which offers uninterrupted navigation while driving through tunnels.

The 750 is intended only for Europe and offers maps for 45 European countries, while the 550 offers maps only for the UK and Ireland. TomTom is also working on finalizing a 3D satellite navigation technology to be introduced no later than 2010.
