TomTom Brings Active Driver Feedback to Europe

As the efforts made by various organizations to increase safe driving intensify, the emphasis is placed more and more on the high tech gadgets available currently on the market. As one of the most important players in this field, TomTom announced this week that it is getting ready to introduce the Active Driver Feedback feature on the European market.

To become available in the second quarter of the year, the feature will work in conjunction with the TomTom PRO navigation devices to give the driver of a vehicle relevant information about their driving performance.

The relevant data TomTom reckons the driver needs in order to drive both safer and in a more fuel efficient manner includes information about the fuel consumption (displayed in the status bar) and an EcoStatistics menu that gives the driver with a summary of their performance by trip, day or total. From the safety point of view, the system will alert the driver every time he or she performs one of the following actions: speeding, harsh steering and breaking, and idling.

For fleet operators, the Active Driver Feedback turns into WEBFLEET OptiDrive, a solution that provides pretty much the same information (speeding, fuel efficiency, idling and driving events), but this time to the fleet manager.

“We believe that empowering drivers is a key success factor in promoting a safe driving policy” said Thomas Schmidt, TomTom Business Solutions managing director. “The active feedback functionality truly puts the driver centre stage in the quest by businesses to improve safety and efficiency on the road.”
