Motorcycles are back with a bang in the fifth episode of the Mission Impossible saga, Rogue Nation. Hero agent Ethan Hunt is impersonated of course by Tom Cruise, the man whose name became impossible to separate from these movies. Having motorcycle action back in 2000’s Mission Impossible 2 was a success for the movie and especially for Triumph, whose Speed Triple was Hunt’s bike of choice. Mission Impossible 5 goes German, as the first official trailer shows, as Tom Cruise will use a flat black BMW S1000RR as his getaway vehicle.
Cruise rides an S1000RR on a winding mountain road and is being chased by the bad guys who are using S1000RRs too, most likely to be able to keep up with him… and add a solid image boost for the German superbike.

A revamped liter-class sport bike which has won the Isle of Man TT in 2014

BMW decided to pull out of the World Superbike despite becoming better and better, and preferred to offer support to private racing teams as part of a bigger effort aimed at starting a brand road racing series.

The 2015 model year S1000RR has received a lot of upgrades and is now the best-performing superbike the Bavarian manufacturer ever produced, but it was the 2014 MY which brought Isle of Man TT glory last year. After leaving from Honda, Michael Dunlop, one of Joey Dunlop’s nephews signed a one-year deal with BMW and rode the S1000RR to victory on the Mountain Course. For 2015, Guy Martin will ride the S1000RR in the Tourist Trophy, possibly in his last racing event of the career, as he contemplates retirement.

How much will IOM racing and victories influence the S1000RR sales is hard to tell now, but we can be sure that BMW’s product placement move in Mission Impossible 5 will make a change in the preferences of many riders looking for a new superbike this year.

Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation premieres on July 31st in the US. Not the best date compared to the riding season, but definitely not a lost cause, either.
