Tom Cruise is 57 years old, and his line of work gave him the chance to do things usual humans can only dream about. But Tom Cruise never went to space, and Tom Cruise can’t have that.
The actor’s latest film, Top Gun: Maverick, is still some months away, having been pushed to a December release date by the pesky little enemy we seem unable to rid ourselves of. When it hit theaters, we’ll get to see Cruise and some of the other actors in airplanes, doing what the script asked them to do. Some of those scenes are not CGI, meaning what you see are the actual actors, being flown in actual airplanes.

But how about seeing Tom Cruise doing stuff in space? That may become a reality sooner than believed, if we are to trust reports coming from Hollywood.

As per a piece of information that first surfaced on Deadline, Tom Cruise and Elon Musk have teamed up for an insane movie project, one that would likely become the first flick to be shot with actors, in space.

The details on the project are close to zero, but according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming “Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space.” We’re also being told this probably isn’t a Mission Impossible film.

The idea might seem far fetched at first look, but it’s really not. After all, since most companies in the space industry are chasing tourists for trips to space, why not allowing studios to shoot stuff up there?

And then, the Musk-NASA-Cruise trio could happen, seeing how Musk is always game when it comes to crazy ideas – the man did send a car into space, remember?- NASA needs the exposure, and Cruise well, he’s Cruise, so…

Until more info on this project surfaces, don’t get over excited. Keep your fingers crossed, though.

Update: NASA confirmed the news.
