Mitsubishi has brought over a second version of the PX-MiEV concept SUV, and the big news is that it has become even more efficient than before, being capable of doing 141 mpg.
The concept is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors producing 81 hp. As the MiEV name suggests, the vehicle travels in electric mode at low speeds an it can do so for about 50 km or 31 miles. When battery charge is low, the engine is turned on and becomes a generator, filling the battery back up.
At higher running speeds, the MX-MiEV II switches into Parallel Hybrid Mode, where the gasoline engine drives the wheels with help from the electric motors.
The Japanese automaker says this advanced system can run on as little as 1.7 liters of fuel every 100 km, equivalent to 141 mpg. It also has an estimated range of 800 km or 497 miles.
