Timo Glock Demands 2-Second Boost from Virgin

Marussia Virgin Racing did not experience the same struggles as rivals Hispania Racing F1 Team in attempting to qualify for the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix, but that doesn't mean their leading driver Timo Glock is not frustrated just the same with his team's campaign so far in the 2011 season.

And judging by the last timing reports in Malaysia, the worst part is still to come, as HRT has closed the gap to Virgin to less than one second in qualifying. And considering that Virgin had all winter to test and improve their car before the season start, one would argue that the Spanish team is closing down fast on their rivals.

That being said, Glock urged his team to update his car immediately and shed at least 2 seconds off his lap times in the rounds to come, admitting that he puts his hopes in Nick Wirth's (technical director) package for the Turkish Grand Prix.

That's what we need,” Glock told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, when referring to the seconds his car needs to make up for in order to catch Team Lotus. “At the beginning I am able to keep up with Lotus but after a few laps I can't hold them. We are simply two seconds too slow.

If we don't go forward, soon HRT will get us,” he warned.

According to the aforementioned publication, the MVR-02 will receive a whole makeover in Istanbul, the venue that will start off the European action in this year's F1. A new floor, a Red Bull-like exhaust system, a revised nose, modified suspensions and reworked front and rear wings are all elements that are expected to be debuted by Virgin in Turkey.
