Sierra Rose has had a full and somewhat troubled life since it was built, 17 years ago. Constructed in Idaho by Finney Boat Works, the three-story houseboat was delivered in 2005 and received the title of largest non-commercial yacht on Lake Tahoe, according to Boat International.

Three years after its delivery, the motor yacht was sold for $3.2 million at an auction, to a Nevada bidder. In 2012, the tri-level luxury yacht made the headlines for partially sinking at its Tahoe Keys Marina dock in South Lake Tahoe, California, for reasons that are unclear even today.

After a much-needed restoration process, the houseboat got back on the water and enjoyed some time in the spotlight after it made an appearance on the Modern Family TV show, in the Lake Life episode, which aired in 2017. But in 2020, bad luck struck Sierra Rose again, when it got involved in a civil lawsuit and was taken into custody by federal marshals. A court-ordered auction made the houseboat available for sale, with the online auction being held by Apple Auctioneering Co.

This month, on June 14, the auction ended and Sierra Rose found itself a new owner, who paid $520,000 for it.

The 85 ft (26 m)-long yacht was inspired by 1930s luxury vessels, but offers modern, high-end amenities. It features four decks, three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and comes with a stylish interior design. Sierra Rose has remote-controlled fireplaces, mahogany floors, a generous, country-style kitchen with granite counters, a breakfast bar, an island, and custom crystal and china. There’s also a spa, bathrooms that give access to an outdoor Jacuzzi tub, and a helicopter pad.
