Thousands Take a Shot at Naming Volt Color

The announcement made by American manufacturer GM that it is looking for a name for the default color to be used on the upcoming Volt PHEV has stirred an immense success, with some 1,800 entries registered in the first four hours since it was made. In the first three days, the official website registered no less than 6,400 entries submitted and over 13,700 unique visitors.

As GM said on Friday, the Volt will be coated, as it exist the assembly line, in what is so far known as "silver exterior with an emerald hue." Not very commercial, GM reckoned, so it launched the aforementioned contest, aiming to let the future customers decide what the adevrtising name for the color will be.

The submissions can be entered by following this link, until the official name will be announced on December 1. Three finalist will be chosen prior to that, with each of them winning a free trip to Los Angeles, two nights standard hotel accommodations, a $400 gift card and free admision to the LA Auto Show on December 2.

We want to invite consumers into the development process of the Chevy Volt and give people an opportunity to be part of our program,” Maria Rohrer, Volt global operations director said in a release when the contest was launched. “We’re looking for a color name that captures the innovation and spirit of the Volt.

Just to give you a taste of what people think the color should be named so far, here are a few examples, as listed on the contest's site: Resilient Platinum, Urban Myst, EV Green, Silveree Emeraude Haze, Obama Blue (!), Sea Green, Pacific Sea Spray, Voltaic Green, Emerald Dawn, Bailout Blue (we like this one)...The list is, as said, very long, so will let you check it out yourselves...
