Mercedes-Benz cars of the 1980s and 1990s are known for their legendary durability. It’s no wonder why many European countries have mega taxi fleets of models with the three-pointed star on the hood.

Thus, whenever you need to speak volumes about an original car’s trustworthiness in terms of design and engineering, a W126 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is always a safe bet.

The second-generation flagship series was produced for more than a decade and it came both in limousine and coupe form. As far as performance is concerned, back then the model name still gave a real hint about the engine’s capacity (life was so much simpler that way, right?!) meaning that if anyone wanted a quick Mercedes, all they had to do was ramp up the numbers.

For example, the 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SEC we see here in this lovely Limarit Blue Perle attire came roaring down the Autobahn (sorry, we just couldn’t help it, we know it’s a right-hand drive example for UK) with a 5.6-liter V8 under its hood.

That means it was perfectly capable of providing 300 hp back in the day, enough for a sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in around seven seconds – even though it weighed more than 1,600 kilos (3527 lbs.), so definitely on the hefty side.

But wait, there’s even more – because this unit just exchanged hands at home in the UK (it’s a vehicle that was delivered new there) for just £19,750, which is around $25,740 at the current exchange rates. A bargain, considering the customizations it has been through during its 150k miles lifetime.

First and foremost, the most obvious modification comes in the form of the spectacular AMG widebody kit, but the 1987 example also went through other changes – adding an Eibach suspension, a Cobra Sport stainless-steel exhaust, 17-inch matching-blue split-rim alloys, and more in the process.

Even the interior got its own refurbishment process, ditching the utterly dullish gray Alcantara original seats in favor of a beige and blue set with AMG logos. Very fitting for the era in which the car was produced, there’s a noble four-spoke wooden steering wheel, matching gear knob, and lots of wooden veneer.

By the way, we should not worry too much that it already got snatched – these kinds of rides have a habit of lasting for ages... and if it’s any consolation we invite you to check out the video embedded below for a moment to enjoy that custom exhaust note.
