A bike what would run and run and keep on running into the deepest corners of the wilderness, hundreds of kilometers far from the nearest gas station sounds pretty much like a dream, doesn't it? Well not quite, if you're riding aboard this unique Ural motorcycle which runs on wood. Wood gas, to be more precise.
This guy has created a makeshift gasification cell, and using whatever wood or similar carbon-laden materials, he's able to power up his Ural. Wood gas can be produced from wood or coal, by burning the fuel in a limited-oxygen environment, and it can be used for internal combustion engines and turbines.

Not exactly a breakthrough in technology since the wood gas was first used in late 19th century, it looks like wood gas engine on this Ural could really go the distance without any petrol. This may not be the best-looking Ural out there, but where this baby can go, looks aren't any help.

And with an estimated speed up to 80 km/h (roughly 50 mph), we guess it's pretty cool, especially since we know sidecar motorcycles have speed limitations due to their architecture. A sack of wood per 100 km (62 miles) is definitely cheaper than petrol, though we doubt this technology will be adopted on a large scale any time soon, safe in case of some planetary apocalyptic event destroys the world as we know it. And if you're riding at -30 centigrade like this fellow, it's also generating some heat.
