Ever since Tesla car started rolling down public roads a decade or so ago, people have been wondering what to convert them into. As a result, we’ve seen our share of ideas, from pick-up trucks to shooting brakes. But a Tesla-based hearse is not something you come across very often.
According to Norwegian funeral consultant Jan Erik Naley, there are currently only four Tesla funeral cars in the world. He should know, as he claims to have built all of them. As per the man, three are already on the road: one in Oslo, one in Trøndelag and the third God knows where.
The fourth is based on a Model S, and it was completed earlier this year. Since that time, Naley has been looking for a buyer willing to pay 1,999,000 Norwegian kroner for it (roughly $220,000). A price that supposedly makes the car the most expensive Tesla in the country, and possibly even beyond.
So far, he has been unsuccessful in finding a buyer.
The hearse is, in fact, a 2018 Model S with only 1,000 km on the odometer (621 miles). Naley chopped most of the interior, and the car can now hold only two people + the dead guy in the back.
To make the car 80 cm longer (31 inches) than what’s shipped from the Tesla factory, thus capable of accommodating a coffin, the guy had to cut the car in half and then put it back together.
We’re not sure how he did that, but the words “aerospace engineering” did come up in an interview the specialist gave back in April afaae.com back in April.
Naley says he is selling the car through a dealer, meaning it is covered by a 5-year warranty on hidden faults and defects. Also, the buyer should preferably be from Norway, as the car has been assembled to Norwegian conditions and requirments.
