“This Scion and Lexus Should Come With a Stick” Says Auto Guide

The manual gearbox is slowly dying, as drivers today prefer the commodity of an automatic for the daily city driving. And commodity is not the only reason for why the manual shifter is no longer an option - the technology behind modern automatic transmissions makes gearshifting more smooth and in many cases, they offer greater fuel efficiency than the oldschool ones.

There are many car models today that come only with automatic gearboxes and AutoGuide made a top with all the cars that do so.

One of them is the Scion iQ. Despite the fact that its Toyota equivalent is offered with a manual transmission choice for Europe, the US Scion iQ comes only with a CVT attached to its 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 94 hp. While its nice for fuel consumption, it takes away the pleasure to rev the engine longer and profit on traffic opportunities.

The other must-have-a-manual-transmission model is the Lexus IS F. While the 2014 model gained some fancy upgrades, this performance sedan screams for a stick shift. It has a 5-liter V8 making 416 hp and 371 lb-ft. That engine begs for a precise bolt-action-rifle-feeling stick shifter to play with.
