This Renault Zoe Is Faster Than a Porsche 911 GTS
The normal Renault Zoe is one of the slowest electric cars in the world, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 13.5 seconds. However because the French carmaker likes to race in Formula E, they built the unique Zoe E-Sport.
The E-Sport is a concept car based on an existing production vehicle, which is pretty rare. But Renault has always enjoyed the "what if our vanilla cars were extra-spicy" game.

Most concept cars are static pieces of fiberglass, but the little Zoe has even gone up the Goodwood hill, so it's not scared of a Porsche, not even one as sporty as the 911 Carrera GTS. As a bonus, one of the drivers is Alain Prost's son Nicolas.

French magazine Automoto put the two together on the track to see if a fast Renault electric car can compete with a nice sports car. Using its superior lag-free powertrain, the Zoe puts its rubber to use and beats the 911. It manages 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds versus 3.7 seconds in the Porsche.

This being the 991.2 model, the GTS packs a 3-liter twin-turbo engine with 450 HP, and it has a top speed of 310 km/h. This, combined with the innate sportiness of the 911 chassis means it's still the faster choice when you want to go around a track.

Still, we find the Zoe E-Sport quite appealing due to its flared out body covered in vibrant blue paint. Renault has even played with the idea of making a production Zoe RS model but so far hasn't started anything.

The concept is not just about looks. It's built with a lot of carbon fiber, so it's 155 kg (341 lbs) lighter than the road-going model. The battery pack is the same, holding only 40 kWh, but two motors now deliver a combined 460 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. Give it 10 seconds, and the little rascal will even crack 130mph.
