This Pimped Mercedes Van With TV Screens in the Doors Is Confusing

Xzibit would be proud, dawg: a photo posted to reddit on a thread dedicated to awful car mods has gone viral, earning comparisons to some of the vehicles the rapper helped customize on the now-defunct show Pimp My Ride.

You can see it in the picture above. That’s a van, a Mercedes-Benz R-Class painted in sparkly turquoise, a bold choice in itself. The poster doesn’t say where the pic was snapped, but every commenter is assuming it’s somewhere in the U.S., where similar mods have been seen before.

It’s not the bold color choice that makes this van stand out, though, but rather the fact that it comes with actual TV screens set inside the doors, facing the road. TV screens in cars are no longer a rarity; in fact, it makes sense to keep rear passengers entertained somehow during long rides, and screens mounted in the headrest are logical.

Apparently, mounting similarly-sized screens facing the road is also a thing. After all, someone’s got to entertain fellow motorists too, and it might as well be this guy with the van. In addition to the glittery paintjob and the oddly-placed screens, this van also comes with massive, gold spinner wheels.

Judging by this solitary photo, one could infer that the owner of this Mercedes either has a thing for outrageous mods or keeps like-minded company: in front of the van sits a Jag painted a delicious shade of pink salmon, rocking bright chrome wheels, a look-at-me combo if we ever saw one.

That said, this guy can’t hold a candle to the builder of Colossus, aka the self-described most luxurious limousine in the world. It comes with 11 TV screens in total, including a massive 52-inch one mounted on the back window, facing backwards, but at least this one serves a purpose: you can rent it out to display your ads.
