As the saying goes, where there’s a will there’s a way. And there is definitely a lot of will here, in the case of two young men from Vietnam, a pair of YouTube stars who have taken the world by surprise with their car and motorcycle replicas made of cardboard.
NHET TV does not deliver the best automotive content out there, to be sure, but it does show what you can achieve if you work hard, plan even harder and don’t really have a massive budget at your disposal. These are, to put it simply, two guys with impressive skills, who dedicate most of their time to build replicas of famous cars and motorcycles.
Perhaps just as impressive is that their replicas are made of cardboard and powered by whatever scooter engine they find laying around. They build a metal frame for everything and, on top of it, attach the “body” of the vehicle, which, in their case, is extremely light. Adding wiring and everything else comes next.
The pair already built a Bugatti Chiron replica, as we reported on a previous occasion. Also then, they had started work on a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, and the most recent updates indicate that the project is coming along nicely: the fake Lambo is now a vibrant shade of exotic green (but the body still needs more fine-tuning) and they’re working on the engine.
Speaking of which, it’s an old and tiny 150cc engine from a scooter. This should serve as reminder that, no matter how convincing the Aventador might end up looking, it will sound nothing like the real deal. Unlike with previous projects, this comes with an added layer of fiberglass over cardboard, which makes it slightly more durable than the Chiron replica.
The pair estimate that the cost of the project so far is of about $500, which, yes, is enough money to buy you a decent moped. But if you went with that option, where would the fun be?
“We want to create a dream car of our own with our own abilities and here we use scraps like old tires and paperboard to make it a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, we will perfect it day by day,” the duo say in the description of the most recent video, which you can also see below.
