This Nissan 370Z Takes the Whole Donut Making Thing a Bit too Literally

Happy National Donut (Doughnut, for all you grammar... aficionados) Day! You probably had no idea, but today, June 3, is National Donut Day, the second most important festive day of the year right after Christmas. If you're a four-year-old, that is.

The round deep-fried dumplings with their sweet coating are a cardiologist's worst nightmare, easily falling into the junk-food category. However, since they served a much greater purpose back in WWI, they've been deemed worthy of a special day dedicated just to their honor. In fact, the first Friday in June celebrates the Salvation Army Lassies, the women who served donuts to soldiers during the first global conflagration.

This national day dates back to 1938, but never was it celebrated as appropriately as Nissan did it this year. Linking a sweet food product with the world of cars is usually a difficult task, but when you have the perfect tail-happy sports car, it all becomes a lot easier.

In what can only be described as a field day for any health inspector, the Japanese brand arranged for a meeting between the two types of donuts that we grownups enjoy: the sweet kind, and the even sweeter kind (wink). With just the perfect machine in its stable, all Nissan had to do now was set the stage.

One completely white room, one attractive presenter, one tray of donuts, one rear-wheel-drive car and only one thing left to do: add the sprinkles. The 370Z is happy to spin around on almost any surface, but when it glides over 2,880 pounds of multi-colored sprinkles, it'll do donuts non stop. And as long as there's somebody holding a tray in the right position, it won't just do them, it'll also make them. Well, at least add the finishing touch.

The result is a funny clip that was probably even more fun to shoot. We still don't understand how come the girl didn't have her mouth open while the car was throwing the sprinkles at her, but she must have had her reasons.
