This Montreal Hilly Intersection Is an Amusement Park. For Those Not Driving

Ah, Mondays at work - the only worse days that I can imagine are Mondays at work after a really long holiday. And since you're not very productive, you might as well take your eyes off the computer screen and look outside for a moment.

For Willem Shepherd, that meant gazing at a snowy intersection between Beaver Hall and Viger in Montreal, Canada. With one of the streets being sloped, the potential for disaster was there, and sure enough, once the street lights turned red, a few cars slid out of control and formed a pileup.

Sensing there was more to come, Willem drew his phone faster than Wild Bill Hickok unholstered his gun, put it in video mode and started recording. Shortly after, his reluctance to work was rewarded with the first big prey entering the arena.

A bus noticed the low grip conditions way too late so it simply plowed into the stopped cars. The one thing about crashing on slippery surfaces is that the car on the receiving end can glide out of the way, reducing damage considerably. But when said vehicle has a few more cars in front it needs to push, so the repair bill might not be that tiny after all.

After that came an electric Kia Soul which appeared to operate as a taxi. This guy is the only sensible person out of the lot. He lets go of the brakes, steers left and stops perpendicularly on the road. We lose sight of the action for a moment as Willem climbs down to street level, but instead of heading further down the road to warn drivers, he keeps on recording. Thank you, Willem, for your complete lack of civic spirit that enabled us to witness this masterpiece.

The second bus driver attempts to use the curb to stop the large vehicle, but as the rear begins to stick out he decides it's better to ram the vehicles in front than end up sideways on the road. The Kia Soul EV driver breathes a sigh of relief.

Finally, the law makes an appearance. The police Dodge Charger manages to do a one-eighty before ending up in the same pile of cars at the bottom of the street. In the end, a snowplow arrives to help, but instead of snow, it simply plows through the rest of the cars, starting with the white-and-blue Charger. If that doesn't crack you up, then nothing will.
