This Mercedes-Benz Movie Will Make You Quit Your Job. As in, Right Now

The message of this video is so obvious, Dieter Zetsche, Daimler's CEO must pray none of his employees watch it as he might end up presiding over a company with zero workforce.
What the short clip entitled "BLINK - a BASE Jumping Flick" is trying to say is this: quit your job. Well, actually it's more like quit your job and start jumping off tall cliffs with nothing but a parachute strapped to your back, but that version might find fewer people willing to give it a try.

If we're to take it even further, it tells you to file your resignation, do what can very easily be described as committing suicide up to the point you deploy the chute, and buy a Mercedes-Benz G-Class because it's the best car to get you where you need to go. Of course, it doesn't say anything about the thousands of hours you need to work in order to afford that car, but that's what the movies are like: they lie. Have you ever seen a newborn baby in real life? They're the most hideous thing ever, and yet they all seem to be born nice and clean in the movies. Not to mention about two months old already.

Maybe we're overreacting a little and this isn't a pro-unemployment clip, but one that promotes the idea of doing what you like and making the most of the rare moments you get to do it. It follows BASE jumper Simon Guthrie as he finishes his work day, jumps into his G-Class SUV and climbs up a mountain in New Zealand.

Filled with a few cliches (throwing the necktie on the floor), plenty of great directing, and a few funny touches ("wildlife," followed by a shot of sheep grazing), this feels like a proper short movie and just a commercial. It's got plenty of artistic merit, and then there's that message you really can't hear enough of: don't allow yourself to get caught up in your work's routine. Go out there and DO something.
