Here’s a surprise. The used car market still carries a hefty premium for hypercars. This 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach Edition proves there are people out there ready to splurge on vehicles of their choosing. A downturn may be imminent. But it’s not happening yet.
Were you anticipating a declining interest in used cars? Well, it seems like it won’t happen to every vehicle out there. Inflation worked wonders for this owner of a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder. He managed to sell the hypercar for the record sum of $2,025,000. Or, even better said, it sold itself. The vehicle attracted enough interest from well-off and passionate bidders. It also sparked an unofficial appreciation competition in the auctioning community. Many rushed to leave positive comments.

But the important thing to remember here is something rather exquisite. Not only did this exclusive car manage to break the record for any Porsche 918 Spyder sold on Bring a Trailer, but it also obtained the highest value ever paid for such a high-performance V8-powered hybrid monster. Granted, the new owner only had to add $50,000 (and the buyer’s fee of 0.25%, which amounts to approximately $5,000) over the what was the previous price record for a low-mileage 918 Spyder Weissach Edition. But it still counts!

The first owner paid $1,049,200. The original price tag included a luggage set with carbon fiber accents and a six-point harness as well.

Researching the online archives and current offers regarding the hypercar in question has revealed that nobody has ever paid more for a Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach Edition at a public auction. Four years ago, a dealer of the Stuttgart-based auto brand offered a similar vehicle dressed up in custom Martini livery for $2.2 million. Unfortunately, the result of the sale remained private and the final price has not been confirmed.

In this particular case, it is not the story, the power, or the color scheme that won people over. This hypercar can easily sell itself since it has the Weissach Package and just 904 mi (1454 km) on the odometer. But the main thing that attracts people to it is something else. It’s a powerful and neverending feeling. Porsche gave the world something else to dream about with this hypercar. It’s a poster vehicle that rivals the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, and a true successor to the magnificent Carrera GT as well.

It doesn’t get any better than this at this price point. Just the fact that it is a high-performance machine that's capable of extracting all the power from its engine to push the boundaries of acceleration shows that this seven-year-old Porsche is a status symbol. It's not a fashion statement. It's proof that engineering can work extremely well with passion for excellence in the automotive space.

Car shows on TV and his father's Fiat Tempra may have been Florin's early influences, but nowadays he favors different things, like the power of an F-150 Raptor. He'll never be able to ignore the shape of a Ferrari though, especially a yellow one.
