The days when Bentleys were bought by British aristocracy and VIPs such as Roger Daltry from The Who are long gone. Bentley is no longer British even though production continues in the lovely town of Crewe in the Cheshire country under the helping hand of the Volkswagen Group.
Because the automaker’s customers have changed so much in a matter of decades, it shouldn’t come as a surprise the Bentayga Stetson Special Edition is a special commission for Texas. Ordered by Bentley Dallas and handcrafted with the help of the Mulliner division, the Stetson is offered in three exterior colors inspired by… wait for it… cowboy hats. Alrighty then, moving on…

Dark Cashmere and Onyx symbolize “the classic Stetson black 100X El Presidente hat” while White Sand is a tribute to the Silverbelly color of the Open Road hat worn by icons like Winston Churchill and Bob Dylan.

Aside from the questionable origins and message it puts out, the special edition has so many badges and embroideries reading “Stetson” that even a rich rancher would refuse to buy such an opulent utility vehicle. The camel hide, saddle hide, burnt oak trim, open-pore liquid amber, and boot stitching are also too much for a British luxury SUV, and the sill plates read “Mulliner * Stetson.”

Stetson started out in 1865 thanks to John B. Stetson as the hat company of the pioneering American West. A university and college of law were named in the founder’s honor, and these days, a man called Xiao Li Tan serves as president of the company. “The collaboration between Stetson and Bentley combines two legendary heritage names to deliver an unparalleled experience for Western enthusiasts,” said the head honcho about the ultra-limited model.

The biggest question is, what kind of Western enthusiast would even consider the Bentayga Stetson over dually Ford Super Duty optioned to the tune of $100,000 with all the bells and whistles? Speaking of pricing, the first of three examples of the breed is available to purchase for $246,578.

If you were wondering, the donor vehicle is the Bentayga V8 with 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque instead of the more potent and quicker W12 or W12 Speed. The starting price of this engine option is $165,000 excluding destination, a lot less than the Stetson edition.
