Before we plunge into the blasphemous depths of the Liberty Walk kit installed on the Ferrari 458 in the clip below, let’s get one thing straight about Ferrari and SUVs.
It’s not just that the Prancing Horse doesn’t want to build an SUV. They don’t need too. The four-door share of the market is covered by Maserati, whether we’re talking about their current Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans or the upcoming Levante crossover.
Having said that, it looks like some people find the ground clearance on their Ferrari as being too... high. The tuning market couldn’t overlook this opportunity, which is why we ended up with cars like the one in this video.
The footage was captured in Monaco and while an important part of the people there stick to the traditional “there’s only one color” mentality, this 458 Italia obviously targets a different demographic.
In its quest to come closer to the road on demand, the supercar packs an air suspension system. Aside from being able to slam the car, the driver can also travel to the other end of the ground clearance scale, making it appear like this is a crossover of the SUV world.
The system responsible for this is an air suspension supplied by Accuair, with the hardware being stowed in the nose of the supercar. Aside from the idea of tuning a Ferrari in such a matter, the practicality drawbacks brought by this makes the whole story even sadder.
Add the edgy, riveted-on fenders of the Liberty Walk body kit and the crossover treatment is complete. Oh dear...
PS: in case you were curious about how such a package is fitted to a 458, you can check out this article. Spoiler alert: fender-cutting is involved.
