Watching a Freestyle Motocross (FMX) race is one enthralling experience, as it blends in the off-road and dirt-riding skills of the competitors with the guts and creativity they must put to work in order to impress judges and their audience with their stunts.
However, this sport leaves little to no room at all to errors, and it’s been more than once when mistakes led to very bad crashes and serious injuries or even worse, to death, with the unfortunate accident in which Metal Mulisha rider Jeremy Lusk lost his life being just one of them. Practice and protective gear play a major role in the success of any FMX stunt, so that’s why you’ll never meet anyone in their right mind attempting to perform such tricks without being all geared up.
When it comes to more complex and dangerous tricks, even top FMX riders like Travis Pastrana, Mike Metzger or Blake Williams are using extra protection in the shape of neck braces, and multiple body armor elements.
The chap in this video can be seen losing grip of his bike’s tail and becoming separated from his ride. However, he was a really lucky fellow, mostly because he didn’t fall from really high, because he landed fairly well and most importantly, because the bike did not hit him as we’ve seen happening on so many occasions.
