This Is Why Truck Drivers Shouldn't Brake for Idiot Drivers

Truck drivers don't enjoy a very favorable reputation, but all questionable habits and music preferences aside, those guys really know how to drive. Well, most of them, at least.

Spending half your life at the wheel of a multi-ton vehicle can mess with your head. People get infatuated with power quite easily, and being the king of the road can have that effect. A lot of people believe that's why truck drivers don't resort to braking or swerving to avoid an accident, but the real reason is different.

A semi truck isn't just heavy, it's also quite large. Emergency braking can have the undesired effect of losing control over the vehicle, or even flipping it over on its side. If that happens on a relatively busy highway, then a massive pileup is almost guaranteed, which can raise the number of victims dramatically.

That's why truck drivers think twice before slamming on the brakes or pulling that steering wheel to either side. Sometimes you have to choose the lesser evil, and if that means hitting the car that cuts you off, then so be it. It's not nice, but it's safer for all the other drivers on the road.

This driver, however, didn't play by those rules. He saw that black sedan jump straight in front of their truck, and instead of sticking those two horns in its rear, he hit the brakes and swerved left, entering the third lane in the process. A second semi that was just about to overtake him was forced to go onto the grassy median to avoid the collision, but luckily it looks like it managed to pull back on the highway without tipping over.

The sedan driver, if you're interested, managed to take the exit he was so desperately going for, and lived happily ever after, even though he was the one who started it. So if you know your exit is coming up, resist the urge to overtake one more semi so you can brake immediately after. Instead, simply fall into the first lane and wait for the exit to come. It will, we promise.
