This Is what Happens when Rappers Get Freedom of Design

Back in the day, art cars would be actual canvases on wheels big automakers like BMW would show around the world. Having renown pop artists drawing on sportscars is not a patented marketing idea, of course, so it’s no surprise most of the auto manufacturers are using it today. The latest to follow that path is Mercedes-Benz and what you see here is the work of a rapper who wears a Panda mask.

The Panda mask Cro - Carlo Waibel on his real name - is wearing as a trademark reminds us of Deadmau5. The 25-year-old German rapper describes his work as a mixture of pop and rap, which he calls “Raop”. That’s what these people do, so we don’t truly find it as a shock. But when you combine that with cars you should know the auto spies will watch.

Leaving all the jokes behind, you should know there’s a Mercedes CLA 180 you see being “handled” with paint and it’s not some underground thing the rapper is doing.

The art car will be shown in the already ongoing road show that travels through Frankfurt, Berlin, Cologne and Munich as well as in connection with the offices in Mannheim, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, and Hamburg. The car is not just for the showcase, as Mercedes-Benz claims they will be giving it away to one happy fan that interacts with the company on Facebook in September.

In case you are wondering why Mercedes-Benz Germany chose Cro for the job, you should know the German rapper is, in fact, a brand ambassador since 2013. The luxury sedan was painted freestyle with aerosol cans, paint, and pens, but we’ll leave you guys to decide whether or not this is a proper art car.
